It really helps that Elliot S! Maggin wrote both characters, and that Green Arrow/Black Canary was a backup in ACTION COMICS.

(By the way, did anybody else see the "Elliot Maggin" that was Green Arrow's campaign manager back in 52? The whole story in 52 with Green Arrow running for political office was clearly very Maggin-inspired; Maggin often talked about how he wanted Green Arrow to be more like Robert Kennedy)

Man, I sure loved it when those two got together. They had terrific chemistry. Superman was a straight man to Ollie and his snappy, streetwise dialogue.

Their personalities contrasted together just as well. Green Arrow is my favorite DC hero: he's opinionated, funny, acts without thinking, is a chick-magnet, and though he means well he's a loudmouth that alienates people. He's what Wildfire would be if Wildfire had heart. I especially liked that of all the heroes in the Satellite-era JLA, Ollie was the only one ever really allowed to be wrong. He's an obnoxious person and a visionary at the same time.

Of the Superman/Green Arrow team-ups, my favorite was Maggin's "The Junkman Cometh" in ACTION #445. In this one, Superman (who is all about patience and thinking things through) gets frustrated and a little angry at Green Arrow because he acts without thinking. In the end, GA saves the day with one of his one-in-a-million Luke Skywalker vs. the Death Star arrow shots at the Fortress of Solitude, saving Kandor from a robot built by Mel Brooks.

When Lois Lane starts cozying up to Green Arrow's debonair persona, Clark Kent uncharacteristically snaps. What's interesting is how despite his obvious respect for GA, Superman much more easily loses his patience with him.

Of course, I always think of it as a Superman/Atom team-up, because I love the bit where the Atom parachutes into Kandor. Either way, it's a great story.

I'd like to see Green Arrow and the Earth-2 Superman team up. Ollie would be the more moderate one in that situation.

Many people want others to accept their opinions as fact. If enough people accept them as fact then it gives the initial person or persons a feeling of power. This is why people will constantly talk about something they hate—they want others to feel the same way. It matters to them that others perceive things the same way that they do.
