From Justice Society of America #5; Superman, Stargirl, Red Tornado and Cyclone go to the Fortress of Solitude tracking down one of the Legion Flight Rings. Superman reveals his ring to Red Tornado but one other ring is registering as being in the Fortress. While this is going on Stargirl and Cyclone are looking at statues of Superman’s friends. One of the sections of statues has Jimmy Olsen, Kal-L, Power Girl and Nightwing. They then go to another set of statues and are met with Superman and Re Tornado. The second set of statues that they look at is the Legion of Super-heroes…the Pre-Crisis Legion of Super-Heroes. Superman then tells how we visited as a teenager by Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl and Lightning Lad to be an honorary member as he is what will inspire them. Cyclone then notices that there are two statues of Wildfire. The second statue is revealed to be the real Wildfire when Superman speaks to it in the Legion dialect. The statue comes to life and collapse to towards the floor but it caught by Superman. Drake says that he couldn’t move nor speak; he then mentions “the Storm” and out of his chest pops out Batman’s utility belt.

Then the group walks to another set of statues --this time it's Superman's Hall of Villains.  All of the statues are wearing women's underwear, except for the members of the Legion of Supervillains.  When Red Tornado's cellphone goes off, the Lightning Lord statue begins to breakdance and then turns into a replica of the original Legion clubhouse and blasts into space, destroying the roof of the Fortress and Superman's priceless collection of origami form Proxima Centuari.  Pursuing the rocket to Krypto's doghouse, the superheroes are surprised to encounter Bat-Mite dressed as Flamebird, stuffed inside a bottle.

Multiverse. Kal joined the Levitz Legion, while Kara joined Waid's Legion. Action #850 should clear up some questions about Waid's Legion.

More to add. Waid's Legion is the future of the current DCU. This is known by the release of Mon-El from the Phantom Zone in the current arc as well as Booster showing up in the latest issue to collect weapons for his fight in 52.

So, Kal joined another universe's Legion. This is how I'm reading the situation thus far, but DC may decide to throw a monkeywrench into this theory down the road.

It all sounds horribly like the Byrne-era post-Crisis pocket universe Superboy and Legion retcons.

I guess I'm not against the idea of time travel taking us to parallel universes.  Just the use of that plot device because current editorial decides that something that needs no explanation (beyond "it's a kids comic book") in fact needs an extremely convoluted explanation.

And then Batman's utility belt says "Happy birthday!" and they all go to California.
