I wish I could claim random non-citizens as dependents.  Smiley

I have to wonder if Rupert Brand was modeled on someone in particular.

I have that story somewhere, maybe in an Annual, but I don't think that it's from Superman #149

Hi...I'm the guy who runs that particular blog.  Let me assure you, the story IS from Superman #149.  In fact, the panels were scanned directly from my very own copy of Superman #149.

I'm sure it's been reprinted elsewhere since then, but the story originally appeared in that issue.

I remember that story!  I was reprinted in the '70's in one of those 100 Pagers. A pretty innovative story, I think, for it's time.

Whoops!  Waitaminute.  I did get the issue number wrong.  I actually scanned the panels from Superman #148 (with Mxyzptlk and a bunch of bogus Supermen on the cover)....so GREAT CATCH!  I knew I could rely on my fellow Superman fans to set me straight!  I'll correct the blog entry.

Whew!

From what I've read, the story mentioned above is a recycled version (with more Silver Age elements like Bizarro added) of an earlier story from "Superman" #114 in July 1957, "Superman's Billion Dollar Debt":

http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=13629&zoom=4  (the cover of "Superman" #114)

http://www.comics.org/details.lasso?id=16494 (info/the cover for "Superman" #148)

Some online (and a book I read about Silver Age comics once) suggested the two stories' similiarities might be handwaved away by declaring #114 as happening on Earth-2, with the latter, updated version in #148 happening on Earth-1...
