In case you were wondering why I haven't edited any entries recently: SUPERMANICA has been BLOCKED by WEBSENSE! (As a chat/message board, no less)

I currently do not use the Internet at home (I live in a rural area and got really tired of using a satellite to get broadband) so I use my T1 at work, when I have no work to do. Unfortunately, since our school system shares a T1 between 3 different buildings (el cheapo) they recently spent thousands of dollars to install Websense, to limit the downloading of videos.

Perhaps millions of government employees have to work through the Websense filter. And now it's blocking Supermanica.

Websense is designed to improve employees' productivity, by removing access to "distractions."

I guess in most cases this would make sense.  You don't want to be paying your employees to spend their time doing recreational web browsing.

But I don't think it makes sense for an academic environment, especially if it's restricting access to research sources.

It blocks nearly everything, which is very bad in an academic environment. I made a website for my students/parents to get study guides, practice, check grades, etc. Next day, blocked. Even wikipedia was blocked at one point, as well as most religious research sites.
