Superman is a fictional character; he doesn't do anything. "He" is just lines on paper.
You're right. I guess we should lock all these threads --why speculate about a fictional character and his achievements? They're not real and we shouldn't waste our time talking about stupid "lines" created by writers and artists.
I was just poking fun at Julian, since the title of the thread made me laugh.
so relax... and those lines are not stupid, they are brilliant and genius! That is why we are here.
Nevertheless, Super Monkey, it got me to thinking. Most of what we discuss is "lines on paper". Jesus Christ is text in a book. Abraham Lincoln is articles I've read. I've never met either man, but I believe they actually lived. (I could be wrong.) With today's digital technology, every time I see a photograph of the President, it could be a fake (ie. a made-up character). George W. Bush is lines on paper to me, because I have never met him. I take the "news" on faith. So Superman is just as real in a sense, and I will stand by that. What's important is how a concept affects the heart (and mind) of the observer. Superman and his ideals have affected a lot of people. And that means the world has changed because of him -- even if just a little bit. So in that regard, he is more than "lines on paper".
