Batman/The Spirit

This was one of the most fun Batman appearences I've read in the past 20 years. I liked how Cooke, as he did in New Frontier finds delightful ways to balance 50's/60's Batman while keeping him a mysterious avenger of the night.

I'll admit that I don't know a whole lot about the Spirit but I know who he is and the legacy of Eisner of course. To me Spirit was great in this one.

Thanks for the recommendations TELLE and Super Monkey.  I managed to get a few black and white reprints by Kitchen Sink Press and the Millennium Edition Spirit #1 since my last post.  As far as back issues go, they're really affordable right now, many cases they're cheaper than new issues.

Really interesting stuff, and gripping at some points, and the stories I read hold up amazingly well.  Looking at the issues, it makes me wonder if Eisner was influenced by Film Noir, or if Film Noir was influenced by Eisner.  Really cool stuff.
