A while back, I added an event to the calendar: "To Serve All My Days."  The event has been showing up on the calendar and on the upcoming events section of the main forum page.   In order that people might have some idea just what this "event" is, I'm creating this post to which the event now links.

One of the reasons that I enjoy the K-Metal project so much is that I like the idea of somehow going back in time and creating new completed works from previously unfinished ones - of continuing or finishing lagacies.  I loved the Beatles' "Free as a Bird," I just finished reading the new Robert Heinlein/Spider Robinson novel, "Variable Star" (which I also thought was fantastic) and I'm a fan of "Star Trek: New Voyages."

New Voyages started as a fan effort:  A group of fans deciding to go back and film the never-seen "fourth season" of the original Star Trek, using a new cast to play Kirk, Spock, McCoy, etc.  They have built completely new sets from scratch, and have a complete 360-degree, functioning Bridge set in upstate New York.  It so happens that the producer of the series worked with William Ware Theiss - the costume designer from the original series.  So they are using the original patterns and their store of the original, no-longer-manufactured fabrics in order to recreate the old costumes.  Gene Roddenberry's son has come on board as executive producer, and in each episode to date, a member of the the original cast has returned to revisit their old role.

The latest episode, "To Serve All My Days," is being releases on November 23rd, Thanksgiving day.  It is written by D. C. Fontana (writer and story editor from the original series) and features the return of Walter Koenig as Chekov.  The trailer is available at http://www.startreknewvoyages.com/800/downloads.php

I'm looking forward to it.

"The bottom line involves choices.  Neither gods nor humans have ever stood calmly in a minefield forever.  Good or evil, they are bound to choose.  And when they do, you will see the truth of all that motivates us.  As a thinking being, you have the obligation to choose.  If the fate of all mankind were in your hands, what would your decision be?  As a writer and an artist, I've drawn my answer."   - Jack Kirby
