Oh yea, this is from my personal research.  I went through 4 or 5 online historic newspapers, searching for the key term "Superman".  It brought back some 19,000 items, 1938-1966.  Mostly I was looking for articles related to the Superman daily newspaper strip (of which I found a handful), or other chapters that I am working on for my book - such as reactions to violence in the Superman comics/radio/strips (a lot of articles) or lawsuits revolving around the newspaper strips (this didn't make the paper).  So I saved the interesting Superman files, but don't really have a use for them. (And this is just a limited newspaper search, it doesn't include my research into magazines or what I have from microfilm).

But yeah, together they build a nice picture of the influence of Superman in our culture.

More hurt kids.  From February 11, 1957:

From November 8, 1958.  I guess those capes in the advertisements are not flame proof....perhaps he should have sued them instead...

I am not sure if this counts.  The *teenager* was obviously off his meds...

The 1940 World's Fair.  Here's the morning Superman schedule from June 3, 1940:

And the following day's results of the Superboy/girl competition.  I wonder where these people are now, and whatever happened to their trophies (can't quite see if that's Superman on the top...)

So Superman is a dangle-dandy, not that there's anything wrong with it Smiley
From February 1955.
