I hear that Superman created a solar system in an issue of Jimmy Olsen. An alien race was really thankful for this, and named just about everything after Superman thereafter.

Anyone have any idea what issue this happened in?

Ooooh!

I don't know the issue where Superman actually DOES this, however, the writers didn't just forget about the fact that Superman created a Solar System.

They go back to the solar system in SUPERMAN'S PAL, JIMMY OLSEN #30 (1958), which I have as a reprint in DC 80 PAGE GIANT NO. 2.

In this story, Superman's Electronic Oracle (possibly an early prototype of his Super-Univac, which can also predict the future?) prophesizes that Superman's son will die. Thus, Superman does everything he can to get out of his 30-day temporary guardianship of Jimmy Olsen, including destroying a present Jimmy gave him.

But it turns out that Superman had it wrong; it wasn't his "son" that died, it was his "sun," the one in his artificial solar system, which had a critical flaw when it was built that left it dead.

Superman goes and replaces it with a young, hot star.

Ah, that's definitely worth looking into too.

Thanks, Julian.
