Ah, was off my one in the issue reference I gave in the "Red Son" thread--the curse of age, I suppose.

A lighthearted, almost whimsical tale, right up until page 18, when Maggin begins to inject a bit of that magic he's so good at, where he strips away the story medium and begins to get at the heart of what Superman, and his relationship with humanity, is all about.

The narration during Superman's battle with the Martian fleet remains some of my favourite in any Superman story ever.

Well, I'd been thinking about it, and then the story came up in conversation, so I moved it a bit higher up the list :-)
