Ah yes, a single comic of Action Comics Weekly written by John Byrne is an excellent example of this.

His story claimed that the Metal Men were a type of polymer and not actual metal.

It also claimed the Metal Men had no rights as human beings.

It went against the entire run of Metal Men, since it showed that they were metal.  Even in that comic, Gold was able to use a part of himself as actual gold.

It ignored that the Metal Men had been granted rights by the United Nations as living beings.  

Differnt writer:
The retcon of where Eclipso got his black diamond contradicted the excellent three part story in Metal Men where Eclipso was defeated for all time and Umbra was sealed away once more.
