The 50th Anniversary issue of Amazing Heroes was #136.  It was a pretty solid issue and had a large variety of articles regarding the history of Superman.

Not that this may help you, but Amazing Heroes #96 was another big Superman issue.  It also has articles that cover a wide spectrum of the history of Superman, but mostly it was a big hype piece for the John Byrne/Marv Wolfman revamp.

Im sure this has been documented elsehwere in mags & books but here you have, two Jewish kids creating a variation on Moses's origin from the Old Testament and that El as in Kal El is one of semitic, i.e. hebrew, names for god.

Whether conscious or not...
in addition to everything else they were inspired by.

The great thing about Gerard Jones' book (from your POV, anyway) is that it's full of references for every chapter.  He does a good job of citing where he gets all his details, and a lot of times its from interviews you should be able to dig up in various backissues of fan and industry mags.
