if Tom Welling turns the part of Superman doesn't mean He's chicken. As with long time series characters have been type cast into the role think Tom Wellings choice is a wise one and Majority Rule doesn't apply to actors careers.
Christopher brought part ofb  his real life personality to the Superman Character in his real lofe the courage and fortitude of the man scares off any one else from taking on that Role

The movie says "you'll beleive a man can fly" Christopher Reeve makes you beleive that "He will walk again" So finding another person with the same character traits that Reeve posseses will prove hard to anyone

Actually, it isn't feasable for Welling to play Superman because the movie is projected for a 2004 release.  It wouldn't work for Welling to play Superman in the movie, and Clark in Smallville.  That's asking the audience to believe that he is a teenager and an adult.

Maybe he could star as the teenage Clark in the movie (it's supposed to retell his origin), but it is too early for him to be Superman.  Maybe after Smallville is over, but not until then.

Could work and wouldn't work
whether Smallville still in or production at the release date
Reason for it could work could be a scifi twist played on time which usally occurs anyway.
why it wouldn't then you'd be expecting Welling to don the costume in the series as well and demand more special effects
besides having a Superman movie run going while the series is still airing would be even more a conflict in the developing plotline of Smallville and it's Characters.
know too much more of a hassle for the Smallville creative and writing staff to still keep an audience in suspence if you know something is going to happen ruins the atrraction.
Better toncome out with a much better written Supergirl movie than the first one leaving more questions unresolved than answered anyway
like how did Argo city residents even escape there how does Kara so aware of Earth culture and customs. how does she know that Superman/Clark kent is her cousin anyway left unresolved in the last movie anyway.
