I saw a documentary on TV about George Bush's Crawford Texas "home" and its tourist industry and kept drawing parallels to Smallville.  The opening page reminds me of this.  And is that Joseph Stalin in the lower right of page one?

Whatever happened to Paris Cullens, the cover artist?

The ad for an Gil Kane action comics in the LOC section looks might interesting - is that Jerry & Joe? If Superman didnt exist -we'd have to invent him?! Hmmm....
