Although, you've got an interesting idea there - maybe the fashionable hairless chests of Krisistin's era are a result of people emulating Kal?

One notable exception to body hairlessness Pre Crisis was when Superboy faced the Dark Superman clone.  When the servant of Darkness burned off Brainiac 5's power-giving circuitry (worn to stay powered under a red sun), teen Kal-El had a notably hairy chest and arms.
