I guess the author didn't bother to read the last Action annual or he would know that Krypton wasn't a direct copy of the movie Krypton.

Good for him!

I think the perception here is what counts --it looks like the movie version and know-nothings like me think it is based on it.  Certainly that is what John Byrne and the Smallville gang were thinking!

Reading this, it occurs to me how monstrously presumptuous it was of Byrne to retcon Krypton so completely, effectively wiping out years of painstaking myth-building in one fell swoop. Over decades, several writers and artists had described the planet little by little (and sometimes in great big lumps, like World of Krypton et al.), and then Byrne just came and said, "Nah, let's turn it into a dump."
