When I was younger, a friend showed me his dad's Superman hardcover encyclopedia. This book detailed a thorough history of Superman and his plethora of supporting characters. Does anyone know the title of this book?

I wasn't sure if this HC was the one. My memory is vague on the details. I recall being floored by the artwork and size. It's late 70's early 80's, so it feels right. Are there other Superman books of this type from that era? Otherwise, GSB is on my pull list.
