"In 1987 I went to Sunset Strip Tattoo in Hollywood.  I was originally looking to get the Bon Jovi-New Jersey logo on my arm, but the tattoo artist talked me out of it.

"Then I saw the Superman logo on the wall of the place, and to me it signified our album Slippery When Wet.  At the time, I would literally fly out over the arena crowd during our shows.  Plus, we'd achieved a career milestone with the success of that record.

"So it made sense to me."
