In 2006, I submitted a pitch to DC Comics for a new, regular comic book title to be called, "Superman Through the Ages!", based on this website and on the vast tapestry of Superman's legacy.
The concept for the comic book was to present new or previously unseen stories set in one of Superman's many comic book, movie, or television ages.
It's possible this was considered too radical and novel and idea in 2006, or maybe there were other problems with it, but for whatever reason, the pitch was turned down.
A short excerpt:
The "Superman Through the Ages! comic book would include exciting and fun stories — both old and new from all eras of Superman's history. Golden Age tales in the Siegel and Shuster style; 1950's sci-fi epics continuing the mind-expanding excitement of Edmund Hamilton and Wayne Boring; 1960s stories of the entire Superman Family told in a sincere and heart-felt manner; homages to the Mort Weisinger and to the Julie Schwartz eras; and even tales of possible future versions of the character. The goal here is to show just how infinitely expansive and glorious Superman's legacy is now; and to give hints as to what it could grow to in the future.
"Also included would be new comic book stories of the George Reeves Superman, the Max Fleischer animated version, and possibly other on-screen version timed, when possible, to coincide with upcoming video releases.
"The title will also provide a showcase for such high-profile writers as
Elliot S! Maggin andCary Bates to revisit and extend their famous epic tales."But the first issue will serve as a platform in which to restore and finally publish Jerry Siegel's "The Secret of the
K-Metal ." Later issues will then give us the opportunity to continue from Siegel's cliff-hanger ending with additional recurring chapters in theK-Metal saga, told in a similar 1940s Siegel and Shuster style."Welcome, at last, to the Superman Through the Ages! comic book.
