THE STORY OF LARA

by Mark Alfred

I grew up on a solid diet of Silver Age DC comics, primarily the Superman titles.  The only history of Superman I knew was from current references or reprints in DC's Annuals.

Upon reaching so-called adulthood and marriage, I began to acquire more comics from my past and buy new ones.  Visits to several OKC comics shops helped boost my collection of older titles.

Some of these stories and situations began to burble in my subconscious.

One of those was Superboy #95, an imaginary tale from 1962 in which Jor-El and Lara accompanied their son to Earth.  Another was the tale of Jax-Ur, introduced in 1961's Adventure #289.  This Phantom Zone villain baldly states that he wants to rule Earth as he tried to rule Krypton.

Between 1985 and 1995, I worked overnights at a convenience store and had plenty of time to read hundreds of titles and take copious notes.  I wondered, What might happen if Superman's family came to Earth and decided to take over?

I decided to write my own answer to that question, designed to emulate a classic Silver Age "imaginary three-part novel." And I tried to shoehorn in as many characters from the 1960s Superman family as possible.

I also had devilish fun writing some stories for this world's Daily Planet.

Now Superman Through the Ages! and super artist Angel Criado have brought my tale to life.  Only you can decide if it's real silver or just flashy nonsense.

Thanks for reading!
