Superman and Wonder Woman first met during a crisis involving Glorious Godfrey, one of Darkseid's minions. Godfrey had come to Earth on orders from his master to discredit the superhero community in the eyes of the public. This was during the early stages of Superman's public career, and the beautiful and commanding presence of the Amazon princess had a powerful affect on him. He arranged for the two of them to meet.

Unfortunately, their meeting was cut short due to the arrival of a messenger who told Diana that Olympus, home of the Greek gods, was under attack. Together, Superman and Diana flew to Olympus and found it under seige by Darkseid. They worked together to defeat the ruler of Apokolips, and then returned to the trickier question of their mutual attraction. In the end, they decided that they would work better as friends.

When Superman died at the hands of Doomsday, Diana was one of his pallbearers escorting his coffin to his tomb in Centennial Park.

After his return and subsequent power loss following the Final Night, she helped him work with STAR Labs to find a way to reignite his powers.

Superman was pulled into Valhalla accidentally with Wonder Woman, where they fought a battle alongside the Norse gods and heroes against unspeakable forces of evil. This battle lasted for a thousand years. When they were finally victorious, they were returned to Earth as though no time had passed.

Superman's and Wonder Woman's friendship has been strengthened over the years through their shared adventures, both together and as part of the Justice League. Although Superman fell in love with and married Lois Lane, Diana of Themyscira has always had a very special place in his heart.
