Harold R. Nichols recently sent in three more drawings, including this one ("The Best of Friends") that he did back in 1974:

They're all online at the Fan Gallery.

Thanks, Harold!

"The bottom line involves choices.  Neither gods nor humans have ever stood calmly in a minefield forever.  Good or evil, they are bound to choose.  And when they do, you will see the truth of all that motivates us.  As a thinking being, you have the obligation to choose.  If the fate of all mankind were in your hands, what would your decision be?  As a writer and an artist, I've drawn my answer."   - Jack Kirby

I don't know exactly how old Mr. Nichols was back in '74, but I must conclude that he was, all-the-same, a child with talent and a true joy for his subject.  There is no one who understands the likes of Superman better than a kid, and this shows what enchantment the Man of Steel brings to the young and those of us who struggle to be young at heart!

Look at that big grin on our hero's face.  A child knows that being Superman has got to be great fun.

Thank you for sharing your boyhood work, Mr. Nichols.

"You're Superman.  Superman doesn't get Lois Lane."

"He doesn't?  What does Superman get?"

"He gets to be Superman."
