The suggestion:
Back the pages with black paper when you scan them.

This will keep reflected light from showing the 'ghost image'
of the back side on the scanned page.

[ I felt this was fairly clever,
  but when I described it to a graphic artist friend,
  she said they had always done that in her shop
  when they needed to photostat art off a newspaper page ].
