Title: What is the current canonical origin?
Post by: The Starchild on December 28, 2004, 04:36:43 PM
This poll isn't asking which origin you wish were canonical, or which origin you personally prefer or think is better, but is asking:

Based on your objective reading of the current DC titles, which Superman origin is currently canonical?

I have no idea because the only mag Ive picked up in years was Super(Bat)Man 13.

It's clearly Waid's Birthright... it can seen in the architecture of the Fortress in Superman and Superman\Batman (the only two Supes books I'm picking up). Bryne's Krypton is no more following the events of Superman #200. And Loeb's Silver Age redux Krypton was (later retconned to be) only an illusion created by Braniac 13 during the 'Return to Krypton II' arc.

... not really a question worth a poll I think.

I would agree with you, except in other forums I have seen people put forward the proposition that some titles acknowledge the Waid origin, and some the Byrne origin, depending on the writer.  They also claim that the editors just sit back and ignore all the contradictions.  Hence this poll, an effort to see what people actually think.

Case in point:  Superman: Strength #1 shows the MOS birthing matrix rocket land on Earth:

And there have been a lot of Birthright references in Superman/Batman,
which is why I had to vote for "All of the Above."
