Even as he struggled to find domestic bliss, Superman found himself up against crisis after crisis. A battle with the mysterious Linear Man sent Superman hurtling back and forth through time--from a meeting with President Franklin D. Roosevelt to another encounter with the Legion of Super-Heroes in the 30th century!

The death of Lex Luthor in a plane crash sent the city of Metropolis into a deep depression. Tempers were short, and the constant threat of riots, looting, and striking workers kept both the Man of Steel and the Metropolis police force on their toes.

A terrorist organization known as Cerberus struck many times during the depression, apparently targeting businesses owned and run by Lexcorp. When Superman continued to confound their efforts, Cerberus turned their attention to him instead.

The Eradicator also returned, this time in human form. The Kryptonian artifact's energy had withstood the heat of the sun and allowed it to return to Earth, where it immediately resumed its program of tranforming the planet into another Krypton. With Emil Hamilton's assistance, Superman was able to dissipate the Eradicator's energies within his Fortress, he hoped forever.

Intergang also continued to be a threat to Metropolis. Superman was able to fight the organization on both fronts--as the Man of Steel and as Clark Kent, reporter. Finally, with the death of Bruno Mannheim, it seemed that Intergang had been broken.

Superman even dealt with the return of Brainiac, who had taken command of the monstrous Warworld and brought it to Earth for a final attack on Metropolis. To combat this evil, Superman rallied together nearly every costumed superhero on the planet.

Time and again, against every adversary, Superman was able to triumph. But then, horribly, an enemy emerged that was able to do what so many of Superman's foes had only dreamed of...
