John Henry Irons has set up his base of operations in Metropolis, converting an old warehouse in Suicide Slum into SteelWorks, his private lab and manufacturing plant.
SteelWorks benefited the most from the Braniac 13 upgrade. The advanced technology has also been supplemented by Kryptonian tech graciously supplied by the Man of Steel.
John Henry's mastery of his field has made him a valuable asset to both the city of Metropolis and her protector, Superman. SteelWorks has contracted out to help the SCU develop new nonlethal weaponry to use in the fight against metahuman criminals. Doctor Irons also works closely with S.T.A.R. Labs.
Recently Superman worked with Dr Irons to develop the new Fortress of Solitude. In gratitude for his assistance, the Man of Steel made the hero known as Steel his partner.
